That’s right. The 28-year-old McCoughtry ranks second among all Eastern Conference frontcourt players while the 23-year-old Schimmel is second among guards according to the early returns of the WNBA All-Star Balloting, presented by Boost Mobile.
McCoughtry, with 4,225 votes, trails only Indiana’s Tamika Catchings (5,558) in the voting for the three frontcourt spots in the starting lineup. While New York’s Tina Charles presently holds the third starting spot with 3,359 votes.
Schimmel (4,419 votes), who happened to be the 2014 WNBA All-Star Game MVP, is holding onto the second starting spot ahead of Chicago’s Cappie Pondexter who has 2,862 votes. Chicago star Elena Delle Donne leads all Eastern Conference players with 10,589 votes.
The WNBA will announce the All-Star starters during an ESPN telecast of ‘SportsCenter’ on Tuesday, July 14. Reserves will be announced a week later during ESPN2‘s telecast of the game between the Phoenix Mercury and Los Angeles Sparks.
Boost Mobile WNBA All-Star 2015, featuring the Eastern Conference All-Stars against the Western Conference All-Stars at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut will be nationally televised by ESPN on Saturday, July 25, at 3:30 p.m. ET.
Fans around the world can vote daily for their favorite WNBA players to become starters in the Boost Mobile WNBA All-Star Game 2015. Votes can be cast on multiple digital platforms, including the WNBA site, the WNBA App, Twitter and Facebook.
